      Top 3 Traits:
      • Classroom Management Skills: This is crucial for creating a structured and supportive learning environment. A well-managed classroom allows for focused learning, minimizes distractions, and promotes student engagement. Effective classroom management techniques include establishing clear expectations, using positive reinforcement, and addressing behavioral issues promptly and fairly.

I chose this trait as I experienced it in enhancing student learning, creating a positive learning environment and it improved my students’ behavior.

      • Communication: Clear and effective communication is essential for building rapport with students, conveying information clearly, and facilitating meaningful discussions. This includes both verbal and nonverbal communication, such as active listening, using appropriate language, and providing timely feedback.

I chose this trait as it helped me in building strong relationship with my students and also giving clear instructions helped me in keeping my students actively engaged during sessions.

      • Subject Matter Knowledge: A deep understanding of the subject matter is fundamental to effective teaching. It enables educators to explain concepts accurately, answer student questions thoughtfully, and adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners. Strong subject knowledge also inspires confidence and credibility in the classroom.
A deep understanding of the subject matter enables the teacher to give effective instructions, different teaching techniques, adaptability and students differentiation.

Sandra, I really liked the part where you take the time to give feedback to the students. This definitely helps them trust you and builds a strong bond between you and them. One of the qualities we share is the importance of knowledge, where teachers need to be thoroughly prepared with the content of the lesson.

My prioritization of qualities that make up a good educator is as follows:

1- Passionate: Teaching is not an easy job and it demands a lot from its employees; therefore, I believe that you cannot be an effective educator if you are not passionate about it. That’s why I believe passion is the first quality you need to become a successful, effective educator.

2- Knowledgeable: This comes a close second, and that explains itself. You cannot transfer information that you are not fully knowledgeable about. Your knowledge allows students to either trust you or not.

3- Up-to-date/Life-long learner: If you are not a life-long learner who keeps himself/herself up-to-date, you will not be as effective. Generations evolve that’s why you must evolve as well. An effective teacher is up-to-date with new teaching approaches and generation needs. Teaching develops as fast as generations and currently generations are changing quickly; therefore, I believe that this comes third in the list of qualities.

4- Proactive: This is not the job where an employee should ignore something just because its not really in their ‘job description’. A professional educator would be ready to teach his/her students from how to tie their shoes to how to write a powerful essay both with the same feeling of responsibility. This shows your care for the full well-being of the student. You are a teacher first, then a subject-matter teacher.

5- Flexibility: I placed this last not because its not as important, but because I believe that your passion, knowledge, and learning will already entail your flexibility. When you are passionate, you would keep trying different approaches to reach your students and a perfect, harmonious session.

Therefore, the three top traits would entail the educator to be passionate, knowledgeable, and life-long learner. I’ve seen a lot of teachers who are too drained and exhausted with the teaching field and their first statement to me is “Why do this to myself?”. This shows that they were never really passionate about teaching; they may’ve become teachers because that’s the available option or the most convenient. Unfortunately, their feelings reflect directly in their planning, and implementation in the classroom. Being passionate is a big part of achieving a lot as a teacher and even creating a successful bond with your students. Students are way more perceptive than adults may believe, and they ‘feel’ your passion, enthusiasm and your boredom and exhaustion. “Possessing knowledge on a topic means being equipped, at all times, to answer any questions that come your way – and as a teacher there will be questions, you can be sure of that!” Your knowledge is what gets you the students’ respect and trust. Finally, I personally know a teacher who is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter and transferring the information to her students but at the same time is too rigid, holding on to a certain way of teaching. Unfortunately, this created a major gap between her and the students who were unable to adapt and learn through those certain approaches. The problem is not in the approach, but the insistence that this is the only approach available without trying to learn different new approaches that may’ve worked better with her students.

        The top qualities:
        1- Friendly-strict
        2- Analytical/ patient
        3- Knowledgeable/ curious
        4- Self-management

1- The friendly-strict teacher is one of the most important qualities of being a professional teacher. You will not be able to handle it in class and manage students’ behavior if you are just friendly or just strict. Being only friendly allows students to underestimate you and would not respect your serious or hard times. they will always get used to you as friend and remove limits that must be there all the time. On the other hand, being strict all the time corners you in the stereotyped hated, silly teacher. The balance between being friendly and strict at the same time helps you achieve a coherent, flexible and healthy classroom environment full of progress and effective work.

(That’s what I usually do with my students, they feel how much I do love them and care for them because I am their friend who seeks their benefit all the time, so whenever I become strict, they totally understand I do this for them.)

2- An analytical- patient teacher is the one who goes deep beyond visible things, not only his subject matters, but also the students’ backgrounds, age and barriers, mentalities, hardships, physical, mental and psychological conditions. This helps you in every aspect of the educational process. It helps in tailoring your sessions into the benefit of each and every student you have (that’s what we call differentiation). Consequently, you need to be patient to be able to handle what you find out through your analysis. To be patient to accept the consequences of what students suffer in their backgrounds and minds.

(I once had a student, who I felt through my analysis and getting deeper into knowing her, that she suffers a severe psychological condition which she hides and doesn’t want to share with us – teachers – or her colleagues. I kept following her, supportive to her all the time, and helped her through this rough time, which was something she really appreciated.)

3- Being curious for knowledge is what makes you a different teacher. You always need to update and upgrade your information to be able to grab the students’ attention and curiosity in your classes. Always challenge them with new ideas and broaden their minds with different and opposite perspectives and leave them to inquire, discuss and decide. To reach it, you need to feed your knowledge as much as you can.

(I have met some teacher whose curiosity and knowledge shocked me as a teacher. They stole my attention within seconds into what they know. I thought of their students and how interested they would be in their sessions with those teachers.

        Top 3 traits :
Core interpersonal skills (communication, patience, and empathy)
        Classroom management
        Subject knowledge

        – Core interpersonal skills (communication, patience, and empathy) are the highest priority because they directly impact the student-teacher relationship and the overall learning environment. These qualities are essential for building trust, promoting understanding, and fostering an atmosphere in which students feel safe and motivated to learn.
        – Classroom management is closely ranked because it ensures that the classroom environment remains conducive to both teaching and active student participation. A well-managed classroom provides structure, minimizes distractions, and encourages respect, all of which are vital for effective learning.

        – Subject knowledge is important but slightly lower in ranking because the ability to effectively convey and apply that knowledge in the classroom is even more critical. While deep expertise in a subject area is necessary, it is most impactful when paired with the skills to communicate and apply that knowledge to engage and support students.

      My top three qualities are:

      1- Classroom management
I believe that effective classroom management allows the class environment to be organized and well structured. When students know what is expected of them, they are more likely to focus on their work and less likely to engage in disruptive behavior. Teachers should use strategies to organize and arrange students, learning materials, space, and use of classroom time to maximize the efficiency of teaching and learning. They should establish clear classroom rules from day one and set a routine for the students.

      2- Excellent Communication Skills
Teachers should know how to teach the subject in a learner-friendly and engaging way. They should be able to break down complex concepts into simpler, more digestible parts. It helps the students in understanding material that might seem overwhelming to them. It also helps in encouraging student participation by having an approachable and friendly tone. Additionally, it helps in building strong relationship with the students because they will feel that the teacher is approachable and explains things easily so they will engage in the learning process.

      3- Enthusiasm
Enthusiasm is important because it sets the tone for the classroom atmosphere. The tone should be energetic and upbeat like greeting the student enthusiastically at the beginning of the day for example. Vibrant classroom encourages students to be more focused and creative and it helps in boosting students’ self-esteem. When a teacher demonstrates excitement and belief in their students’ potential, it motivates them to believe in themselves and take on new challenges.

By establishing a well-structured learning environment, you create a space where students can thrive. Your excellent communication skills enable you to break down complex concepts into understandable terms, fostering student engagement and understanding. Finally, your enthusiasm is contagious and motivates students to reach their full potential.

These qualities are essential for creating a positive and productive learning experience.

I completely agree with the three traits you’ve mentioned. Classroom management skills are really important because they help create a calm and organized environment where students can focus and learn well. Communication is key because it helps build good relationships with students and makes it easier to explain things clearly, which keeps them involved in the lesson. Subject matter knowledge is also crucial because it helps teachers explain ideas correctly, answer questions, and make lessons interesting for all students. All three of these traits are important for making learning more effective and enjoyable for students.

Gannah, I totally agree with. I believe if we are not passionate about what we do we won’t do it as it should be, it will be a kind of duty that we have to do not willing to do. Also being knowledgeable and up to date is one of the qualities, I, myself believe is essential as this what makes us different and unique.

Gannah, I agree completely with your prioritisation of qualities. Passion, knowledge, and being a life-long learner are definitely the foundations of an effective educator. I particularly appreciate your point about flexibility – as you said, passion and knowledge naturally lead to being flexible in the classroom. I also think your example of the teacher who struggled with rigidity is very insightful. It shows how important it is to be open to new teaching approaches to meet the diverse needs of our students.
I also think it’s really smart that you picked those three qualities. They truly form the foundation of an effective educator. Your points about how these qualities impact classroom dynamics really resonate with me. Passion especially seems to drive everything else, and when it’s there, it sets the tone for everything we do in the classroom.

I wholeheartedly agree with you regarding the quality of passion. If teachers aren’t passionate about it, the students’ morale will be affected; accordingly, they won’t enjoy the process nor have the spirit of a learner.
I also like the knowledgeable part, as teachers who are not so updated or lack the knowledge of the content don’t gain the sufficient respect and trust of students, parents, and colleagues.

      Top 3 Traits: –

      1. Classroom Management
Classroom management is essential for maintaining a productive and positive learning environment, especially for younger children who may be learning how to follow rules and routines. A well-managed classroom allows students to focus on their learning without distractions and helps create a space where students feel safe and respected.
For instance, I implement routines such as a quiet signal when it’s time to gather the class, or a visual schedule that helps children understand what activities are coming up. With good classroom management, I minimize disruptions and ensure that students are engaged in their learning.
      2. Clear Communication
Students are still developing language skills, and clear communication is vital to ensure that instructions, expectations, and feedback are understood. When teachers use simple, clear language, students are more likely to grasp concepts and feel confident in their learning.
For instance, I could use clear and concise instructions when explaining an activity, such as, “First, we will draw a picture of our favorite animal. Then, we will write one sentence about it.” This clarity helps my students follow the steps without confusion and feel more independent in completing their work.
      3. Building Relationships.
Building strong relationships fosters a safe and welcoming classroom atmosphere. Teachers who prioritize relationships can create an environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and taking risks in their learning. This is particularly important in primary education, where emotional security is essential for young learners.
For instance, supporting social-emotional development. If a student is upset because of a disagreement with a classmate, the teacher can intervene by helping the child express their feelings and guiding them through resolving the conflict. The teacher’s ability to address emotional needs reinforces a sense of security and helps students feel emotionally supported.

Helping students express their feelings and guiding them through conflict resolution not only supports their emotional needs but also teaches valuable life skills. It’s important to let students express their feelings and emotions.
In addition, prioritizing relationships can positively impact academic performance. When students feel safe and supported, they are more likely to engage in learning, ask questions, and feel confident in their abilities.
Overall, your approach to supporting students’ emotional needs while promoting social-emotional development is essential for creating an environment where children feel valued, respected, and ready to learn.
