-Task 5 – Week 5 – Explore and Evaluate an EDP Resource:

Resource Selected: Engineering Design Process Infographic

    Description:
The resource I selected is the Engineering Design Process infographic, which visually outlines the seven iterative steps of the EDP: Ask, Research, Imagine, Plan, Create, Test, and Improve. Each step is clearly labeled with a brief explanation, supported by color-coded visuals that show the cyclical nature of the process.

    Reflection & Analysis
Why did you select this resource?
I chose this infographic because the clear, structured, and engaging layout immediately caught my attention and seemed like a great anchor point for both teaching and classroom reference.

What made it stand out to you personally or professionally?
Personally, I appreciated how it distills a complex concept into a format that is accessible for a wide range of learners.

How does this resource support the teaching or understanding of the engineering design process?
It provides a visual map that students can return to during hands-on projects, helping them see where they are in the process and what comes next. It encourages students to embrace iteration and view failure as part of learning, which is central to engineering thinking.

How do you imagine using this in your classroom? How developmentally appropriate is this for your grade level or learners? What modifications would you make to suit your learners or context?
I would print and post this infographic in my classroom and include it in students’ science journals. It is highly appropriate for my upper elementary learners (grades 4–5), but I would consider adding age-appropriate icons or examples (e.g. designing a new lunchbox\ locker under Imagine) to make each step even more relatable. For younger students, I might use this as a coloring sheet or create an interactive bulletin board version.

What questions or uncertainties do you still have about this resource?
While the site does offer a helpful video version of the infographic, I still wonder how this resource could be further adapted for students with diverse learning needs especially those with visual impairments or cognitive processing challenges. Are there tactile or interactive versions that allow for hands-on engagement? How might we modify or expand on the existing formats to ensure all learners can fully access and benefit from the content?

How might your selected resource foster skills and habits of mind in students?
The visual clarity of this infographic can help reinforce key habits of mind such as iteration, problem-solving, flexible thinking, and communication. By referencing it throughout projects, students are more likely to internalize that thinking like an engineer involves repeating steps, asking questions, and continuously improving ideas not just finishing a task.
